BRANDON WERTH aka BLK WLF

An enigmatic bi-racial Minneapolis artist and father of five. He spends most of his time wandering the wooded areas of the world listening with keen ears for interesting fauna and spontaneous prose to fill his head. While at home he enjoys experimenting with photographic arts, obsessing over color theory, raising monarch butterflies and fighting to make the world a more lush and loving landscape for all.

I have been working on a project that is a mix between my own personal identity as a black american growing up in predominantly white suburbs in the 80's and 90's. The massive identity crisis that it left on me and many, from the lack of diversity in our media (still ongoing) and the representation of black people throughout art historically.

I remember distinctly many of my art history classes or trips to museums to view renaissance art and portrait work and seeing these grand works that highlighted white europeans.  On the plaque under the painting it would have the name of this person and the name of their dog, but the brown person in the background would just be titled "a negro" or "a slave" etc.

I cannot change history, I know this was a reality. I have accepted that which I cannot change, but all of these micro aggressions towards someones skin color over a very long period of time has lasting effects. I am on a healing journey for myself and others like me. To combine an old flemish style art and with a semi-fictional rewriting of a racist renaissance. A world of my own, if you will, where black people did wear armor, were kings and queens in an arthurian style setting were they were ladened with flowers, painted beautifully and had names.
